Changing the Authy Backups Password

Changing your backups password on the Authy app is quick and easy. Changing the password on one device will propagate across all other Authy app instances registered to this account - even those where you haven’t decrypted your 2FA accounts with the existing backups password.

As long as the Authy app you're using has your 2FA account tokens decrypted, you won't need to know your current backups password - you can just follow the change process below to update the backups password to a new password of your choosing. Once the backups password has been changed, all other devices with these 2FA account tokens synchronized will receive a prompt to enter your newly set backups password to decrypt the tokens.

Please click the appropriate link for instructions on changing the backups from each of our Authy Apps:

Alert: The Backups password is never sent or stored in our servers for your security, so make sure you write it down somewhere safe, and/or use a password only you know. Users without the valid backups password may be unable to decrypt synchronized tokens. For more information, please see Authy Backups Password Recovery.
