Changing the Authy Backups Password

Changing your backups password on the Authy app is quick and easy. Changing the password on one device will propagate across all other Authy app instances registered to this account - even those where you haven’t decrypted your 2FA accounts with the existing backups password.

As long as the Authy app you're using has your 2FA account tokens decrypted, you won't need to know your current backups password.
Once the backups password has been changed, all other devices will receive a prompt to re-enter the new password to unlock the 2FA account tokens.

Alert: The Backups password is never sent nor stored in our servers for your security, so make sure you write it down somewhere safe or use a password only you know. If you ever forget your backups password, your account tokens will be permanently lost.

Users that are unable to pass the backups password check will be unable to decrypt these tokens, and will likely need to contact the 2FA account's support team to regain access to any account that you are now locked out of.
