We’re planning to implement a rate limit for phone verification SMS messages and voice calls sent from the Authy and Verify APIs. We expect this change to go into production on February 15th 2019.
Why is this happening?
In order to protect our customers from the increase in Toll Fraud that we’ve seen over the last 3 months, we’ve implemented rate limits to prevent unusually high number of verification calls to the same number.
Put simply, toll fraud is a fraudster making a huge number of high-cost calls from your account, and leaving you with the bill.
Since putting these limits, we have seen a 90% drop in the frequency and cost of toll fraud on our network.
When is this happening?
We plan to implement a rate limit for phone verification SMS messages and voice calls sent from the Authy and Verify APIs and it will go into production on February 15th 2019 at 00:00 GMT.

Do I have to do anything?
No. We chose these limits based on vast majority of all verification use cases, and expect most customers to not have any issues. Unless you are undergoing testing where you might bump against these limits, you don’t have to do anything! However, if you are about to undergo testing where you will have to make extremely high number of verification attempts, please contact our Support team.
