Add a New Two Factor Authentication (2FA) Account Token in the Authy App

Adding a Two Factor Authentication token through Authy is a great way to secure all your user accounts. In this article, we will discuss how to configure your account for 2FA security, and how to add the account to Authy.

Step 1: Setup your online account for 2FA with Authy

Each online account has a different setup process. For step by step instructions on adding a specific account to Authy, please see our 2FA configuration guides for popular services here: https://authy.com/guides/.

If you don't see your account listed, it may still be supported. Check to see if it supports software tokens at https://2fa.directory/. There you'll also find a link to setup information for each site under docs.

Step 2: Add the 2FA account token to Authy

Add a new 2FA account token on Android

Once you are logged into your online account and see the key or QR code, follow the below process to secure your account with 2FA.

  1. Open the Authy Android app.
  2. Tap the (menu) icon in the upper right corner, and then select Add Account.
  3. Tap the desired option, and follow the prompts:
       - Scan QR Code: Use this option to scan a QR code with your device's camera.
       - Enter key manually: Use this option to manually type in a token code on your device.
  4. Select the icon (if desired) and enter an account name, then tap Done.
  5. You'll now see a new 2FA code for this account in Authy. Enter this code on your account page, and then submit it.

Add a new 2FA account token on the Chrome App

Notice: The Authy for Chrome App & Extension is no longer supported. For full details, see Authy for Chrome App & Extension End of Life.

Once you are logged into your online account and see the key or QR code, follow the below process to secure your account with 2FA.

  1. Open the Authy Chrome app.
  2. Click the Settings icon Chrome_Settings.png in the upper left corner.
  3. Click the Red + sign for Add Authenticator Account.
  4. Enter the code from your desired account page, and then click Add Account.
  5. Select the desired logo and token length, enter the desired account name, and then click Done.
       NOTE: Check your account to see if a specific token digit length is called out. If you have trouble using your token, try again with a different token length.
  6. A notification window will be displayed advising your account has been created. Click Accept.
  7. Close the Settings window, and then return to the main Authy app window and click your new account.
  8. You'll now see a new 2FA code for this account in Authy. Enter this code on your account page, and then submit it.

Add a new 2FA account token on Desktop - Linux, MacOS (OSX), or Windows

Notice: The Authy desktop app is not capable of scanning QR codes.

Once you are logged into your online account and see the key or QR code, follow the below process to secure your account with 2FA.

  1. Open the Authy desktop app.
  2. Click the + (plus) sign in the upper right corner.
  3. Enter the code from your desired account page, and then click Add Account.
  4. Enter the desired account name, select a logo and token digit length, and then click Save.
       NOTE: Check your account to see if a specific token digit length is called out. If you have trouble using your token, try again with a different token length.
  5. You'll now see a new 2FA code for this account in Authy. Enter this code on your account page, and then submit it.

Add a new 2FA account token on iOS

Once you are logged into your online account and see the key or QR code, follow the below process to secure your account with 2FA.

  1. Open the Authy iOS app.
  2. Tap the Red + sign at the bottom of the screen for Add Account.
  3. Tap the desired option, and follow the prompts:
       - Scan QR Code: Use this option to scan a QR code with your device's camera.
       - Enter key manually: Use this option to manually type in a token code on your device.
  4. Select the icon (if desired) and enter an account name, then tap Done.
  5. You'll now see a new 2FA code for this account in Authy. Enter this code on your account page, and then submit it.

Delete a 2FA Account in Authy
